I'm so thrilled my Pineapple Sage 'Golden Delicious' are blooming - it's such a pure red, not as orange-red as I remember.

Gorgeous foliage! |
My Salvia 'Vanhouttei' are also blooming behind the Pineapple Sage. They're a darker red, and also beautiful (I wish I had a close-up):
The Canna got perky after the weather cooled, too:

And much to my surprise, my Mahonia 'Soft Caress' are blooming:

Happy Garden Blogger's Bloom Day, ya'll! Thanks SO much to Carol of May Dreams for hosting!
Hi Wendy, I just looked at your profile, I guess you would have liked to garden in my climate here in London :-) Mahonia 'Soft Caress' is on my (very long!) wish-list and I love your canna.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, yes! I love looking at English gardens, but I've learned the hard way that the Texas sun has different ideas. ;-)
DeletePretty canna lilies!
ReplyDeleteHappy Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day!
Lea
Thanks Lea! I love those Cannas!
DeleteYou're right the foliage itself on the Golden Delicious looks great, almost like a sunburst gradient. Happy Bloom Day!
ReplyDeleteYou're right! I love chartreuse anything. I had a reeeeeallly hard time narrowing the Golden Delicious photos down to just a few. :-)
DeleteIt is a surprise that your Mahonia are blooming, it seems a bit early. Maybe the heavy rains in October play a role in that? Enjoy your pretties!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tina! They haven't grown much since I planted them in the Spring but they haven't died either, so I'd almost convinced myself they're plastic. ;-)
DeleteSadly, there are worse gardening things I could do (and have done) than put plastic plants in the ground. Just ask the Banana trees I got for free from a neighbor.... :-/
You've got great blooms! The foliage and flower of Canna 'Flambe' are stunning. Just read through your epic catch-up posts and am impressed by how busy y'all have been in October! Happy GBBD!
ReplyDeleteThanks a bunch! I have been neglecting the yard since our last big rainstorm, but I know I'll regret it as soon as it gets really cold and I'm stuck inside for 2 months. I'm dreading leaf cleanup....
DeleteBeautiful blooms! Love the foliage of the Canna 'Flambe'.
ReplyDeleteThanks Janice! I imagine you can grow some pretty stunning Canna in Florida!
DeleteHi, Wendy
ReplyDeleteI love the Golden Delicious Sage as well- grew it for the first time this year in a container with Geranium 'Mrs. Pollack' and a red Coleus. All of my pots are gone now, but it was nice to see yours still blooming and happy! Thanks for sharing the photos.
That would be a stunning combination! I have to say, if we hadn't gotten all that rain I doubt mine would look as good as they do. I'd rather be lucky than good!
DeleteYour pineapple sage reminds me that I forgot to include mine in my post of bloomers and it is blooming gloriously this fall! And your mahonia reminds me that I need to purchase that plant - again. I lost mine when I moved it and didn't take proper care of it after the move. Every Texas garden needs at least one!
ReplyDeleteI may have to buy more Mahonia 'Soft Caress' in the Spring: I purchased 2 Acacia 'Cousin Itt' and while I'm hopeful they'll survive (and thrive), better gardeners have thrown them in the compost heap! ;-) 'Soft Caress' has that same feathery look.
